by RPH posted 09/25/2009 Congratulations to Tyler Lohmeyer, Left Winger for the PeeWee Wild team, who recently advanced to the Finals of the Washington Capitals Shoot Out Competition as the Virginia State Champion. The competition for Tyler started on September 12th at the Ashburn Ice House, where he went up against 11 other PeeWee shooters. The initial competition was a 2 round elimination format against 9 different goalies that narrowed the field down to 4 shooters and 2 goalies. Tyler ended up in 2nd place overall after the initial round behind only Trey Aiello of the Ashburn Extreme ('97). Joining them were Chris O'Brien (also of the Ashburn Extreme '97) and Jordan Graves of the Washington Little Caps (U12) as the other 2 shooters.
The Semifinals were held on September 20th at the Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, where all the remaining shooters and goalies from Virginia and Maryland were battling it out to see who would represent their state in the Finals at a future Capital's home game. Trey Aiello came out of the gates strong and led after the first round, but Tyler and Jordan came back to tie him in the second round to force an overtime. They then had 1 shot on each of the 2 remaining goalies. Tyler and Trey tied with 1 goal each to force a 2nd overtime. Tyler scored 1 more time with an incredible deke on his 2nd attempt to earn his spot in the finals as the best PeeWee shooter from Virginia.
On Thursday January 7th during one of the intermission of the Caps vs. Senators game, Tyler will be playing alongside Charlottesville goalie Zach Hale against the champions from Maryland to determine the overall Capital's Shout Out Champion. Come out and cheer on the Wild's own Tyler Lohmeyer and the Capitals.
