Thanks to the Newtown Youth Lax Community

From the Board of Directors of the Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association, we would like to thank all the players, coaches and parents for a successful 2010 Lacrosse season. We could not achieve our vision without your ongoing commitment and support.

I’m proud to say that we had close to 100% of our girls and boys coaches complete a positive coaching certification course to help them deliver the best experience possible to our athletes. Our measure of success is not about the win loss column; it’s about coaching kids in the most positive environment possible.

In 2010 we partnered with our High School lacrosse players to assist in mentoring, coaching and refereeing our young athletes. We place a high importance on a close involvement with the High School lacrosse program, and our Newtown High School athletes have done a fantastic job this season.

Our program has continued to grow, even in these challenging economic times. We believe this is due not only to the rapid growth of the sport across the country, in general, but more importantly because of our dedication to developing and teaching young athletes in a fun, positive environment. We had several teams with great records and a few who earned championships this season. When you foster this kind of environment, the wins will come.

Keep your kids involved in other sports. Specializing in one sport can become boring and create sport burnout, which is a real problem for many kids today. Being able to play several sports will become a real bonus as they head to the one school, one team aspect of High School sports.

Have a great, safe summer.  Don’t forget to pack the sticks when you head to the beach and work on your off hand!! We look forward to seeing all of you for late fall Lax.

Thanks again,

Bobby Marusi
President Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association and
Vice President, Men’s/ Boy’s play, US Lacrosse, CT Chapter

NEWTOWN LAX - JUNIOR GOLD WINS CONNY TITLE

After going 14-2 on the regular season, Newtown U13 Junior Gold wins their CONNY ( Connecticut / New York Lacrosse Assoc. )  Bracket Championship.  The first game scheduled against Wilton was won with ease with a score of 16-1.  Junior Gold was dominant on Faceoffs, ground balls and ball movement.  16 goals were scored by 10 different players and almost all were assisted.

The Championship game vs. Madison was a tough contest out the gates, with temperatures on the turf of over 100 degrees.  Madison quickly jumped on Newtown with a 2-0 lead after the first period.  Newtown responded and ended the first half down one goal with a score of 4-3.

This game was a tale of 2 half's with Newtown exploding in the 3rd period with solid offense and ball movement.  Newtown won 90% of the faceoffs in the second half, dominated the ground balls and worked as a team to win the game 11-6.

This team has had a strong offense all year recording over 150 goals in 16 games. The defense is very strong as well, only letting up an average of 3.43 goals a game.

U15 GOLD WINS SWC CHAMPIONSHIP
by posted 06/09/2010

2010 U15 SWC CHAMPS !!!!!
The Newtown U15 Gold Boys Lacrosse team captured the Southwest Conference Championship on Saturdayin Brookfield.  The team compiled a 3-0 record on the day including victories over New Fairfield and Relax who had triumphed over Newtown earlier in the season.  The day started with a fiercely competitive victory over New Fairfield led by strong defensive efforts from Cameron Partrick and outstanding transition play from long pole middie, Doug Miller.  Midfielder, Alec Beauchemin, controlled the face off X all day and led the scoring barrage including a "Braveheart" (one on one face off then score after a tie) victory over Brookfield in the second game. The championship game against Relax was a true team effort with every player contributing to the victory.  The attack, led by Cody Ryan, finished several nice goals and Stephen Walsh and Doug Miller ran outstanding transition opportunities.  The tournament win would not have been possible without the stellar play between the pipes from Casy Fuller.  Casey's performance in making save after save and his pin point outlet passes confirmed why he is the best goalie in the league.  Congratulations on a great season!
