CIHC 2020/2021 Season Delayed

Columbus Ice Hockey Club will be delaying the start for our House Hockey Program until at least January 1, 2021.  We will be moving forward with our High School Junior Varsity Team and Girls Hockey Partnership with Central Ohio Girls Hockey (COGH) as planned.  Communication on JV Hockey tryouts are forthcoming and will be released soon.

As a board, we feel the delay is the best decision based on the following factors:

  • The impact of COVID and the fluidity of ongoing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  We need time to design protocols that work for our organization and facilities we use to administer our program.

  • It is currently undetermined when the Columbus Fairgrounds will open and as a result our access to ice is limited at this point and what we anticipate being available cannot support house hockey teams at this time.  The JV and Girls Partnership primarily use Chiller Ice, while our house program is based out of the Columbus Fairgrounds.

Though disappointing, we are not abandoning hopes of having a house hockey season and at this point view this as a delay.  We ask everyone to consider there are many challenges ahead; not the least of which is being able to keep the coaches, players, parents, and community safe.   To that end, we have asked our Executive Director John Haferman to look at creative ways to keep club participants engaged with Columbus Ice Hockey Club through clinics, video training, etc starting in October.

We plan to provide an update to the club the first week of November as to our go forward plan for our house hockey program for the 2020-2021 season.

In closing, we know we have become an integral part of the community and appreciate all the support we have received over the years.  It is our goal over the next few months to try and return to ice this season as safely as possible.

In the interim, stay safe and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us via email at cihcboard@gmail.com.

Go Ice Eagles!
