The WHA is dedicated to the growth and development of youth hockey. The WHA exists as an educational / recreational organization that provides a progressive pathway for children from ages 4 - 18 how to play the exciting game of ice hockey.
With programs for ages 4 - 18, Winterhurst Hockey has a program for your child. If your son or daughter is eight or younger, click "8 & Under Programs" on the left hand side. If you are interested in joining at the Squirt, Peewee or Bantam level, tryouts will be in March 2019. Precise dates will be posted here once they are confirmed. Direct your hockey specific questions to Association President Johan Sjoberg.
Why should you be a part of Winterhurst Hockey? Here are several reasons...
Ice time. WHA teams average two practices a week and play upwards of 40* pre-season, regular season and tournament games in a season.
Skill sessions. WHA players will be offered regular group skill sessions led by trained and qualified hockey coaches and trainers.
Convenient. All practices are held at Serpentini Arena (no rink-hopping for practices) which is centrally and conveniently located just off of I- 90 and has two sheets of ice for greater convenience.
Local. WHA teams play in the competitive Cleveland Suburban Hockey League against teams within the greater Cleveland area and Columbus. Out of town travel is at the discretion of each team.
* Pertains to Squirt, Peewee & Bantam Levels
Clear Communication. The WHA board & hockey director are devoted to a culture of open communication with our families. You can count on hearing from your board often as well as useful, up-to-date info on our website and through newsletters.
Up front schedule. Our ice schedules are shared a few months at a time, rather than just one month, or last minute!
Development. WHA is committed to all aspects of the USA Hockey American Development Model that promotes the development of well rounded children and strives for balance suitable to all age and skill levels.
Safety. All WHA players and famillies will be educated on safety concerns related to concussions and other potential injuries, including ways to minimize their possibility.
Fun. All WHA teams have the opportunity to play games on the Lake Erie Monsters ice at 'The Q', play glow puck games, participate in a year-end player recognition banquet, participate in local parades, and more!
All of these things, and a dedication to growing youth hockey the right way, for all who want to play it, make the Winterhurst Hockey Association the right place to bring your son or daughter to play hockey.
